10 Cool '90s Things That Are Still Cool Today

by Dasha Fayvinova

Have you ever thought about all of the things from your childhood that are coming back in style? The moment I saw that chokers were a thing again, I went out a bought a few. Soon it will be the Furby, and those blow pens that made you almost pass out before you could get through coloring one butterfly wing. It looks like Reddit was thinking about this topic too, because they asked what was actually cool in the '90s that is still cool today and got some great responses. It was like a walk through my childhood! Complete with celebrities, TV shows, and even political statements.

We can all agree that the '90s were the best. We were introduced to the shows we love today: Daria, Spongebob Squarepants, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. All amazing contributions that shaped the personalities of an entire generation of kids. I know that a lot of my friends have fantasies about living in New York City, drinking coffee and saying things like "can his coffee be any hotter?" — all because they grew up on Friends. And who could blame them?! The '90s were dope! As I think back to what I loved the most, Disney Channel original movies were the best. They taught me about friendships and heartache, how to be the best version of myself, and finally, that what really matters is your family. I'm sure kids growing up today have those same experiences, but I can't help but think that the '90s were the pinnacle. Maybe I'm wrong, but Reddit can back me up. After all... why would these things be coming back in style if they aren't the best? Below are some of the things that were popular in the '90s that continue to be cool today.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dog will never go out of style. This man is a living legend. I'm glad to see that he is still part of pop culture, his contributions in hip hop are very important.

The Big Lebowski

The Dude has inspired a generation of lost adults from all walks of life. Being in my mid-20s I totally understand the idea of being broke. While I've never gotten a finger mailed to me, I have a weird fascination with carpets.

Clinton For President

Having the coolest, sax-playing president in the '90s was great. Having his incredibly smart and competent partner running now is a blast from the past bonus.

Nintendo

Pokémon is making a huge comeback through apps and memes. The Internet has really embraced it in a major way. I hope that little kids are learning how to catch them all to this day.

The Simpsons

Some of the best episodes of this show aired during the '90s. Most of the writing staff went on to create their own shows, or write for all of our favorite comedy shows today.

Converse

I will say that this, like The Simpsons, will not be going out of style any time soon.

The Internet

Maybe the Internet wasn't what we imagine it to be today, but it was still mighty important in the '90s. It was a revolution in technology and information. I can't wait to see how we feel about it in 100 years.

Space Jam

In case you haven't heard — Lebron James is supposed to star in the remake of the cult classic '90s movie Space Jam . A movie that put humans and cartoons together can only look better with modern animation techniques.

Flannel

This is my ultimate answer. Flannel is a staple of the grunge loving '90s kid. Now it's a totally acceptable piece of clothing on dates, food runs, and hiking trips. This versatile piece of clothing is a must for anyone looking for a nostalgia kick.

Antartica

Har har, Reddit.
