During a typical wedding, the people getting married share a kiss. During Britney Spears wedding, a special guest gets one — at least when that guest is Madonna. The “Material Girl” singer was one of several celebrities in attendance at Spears and Sam Asghari’s wedding on June 9, including Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Paris Hilton.

At one point after the ceremony, Spears changed out of her Versace wedding gown into a short red dress by the same designer, per Vogue, all the better for dancing till the world ends. In addition to jamming out together during the reception, Spears and Madonna shared a kiss, perfectly recreating their on-stage smooch from 19 years earlier. While singing together at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards — in a wedding-themed performance, no less — Madonna and Spears kissed each other, to the apparent discomfort of Spears’ ex Justin Timberlake in the audience.

As recently as this January, Madonna said on Instagram that “it would be really cool” to recreate the kiss with her “Me Against The Music” collaborator on tour, but fortunately for fans, it happened even earlier, as seen here in this image from photographer Kevin Ostajewski.

It wasn’t the only sweet exchange from Spears’ wedding. As the singer put it to Vogue, she “really wanted to make this a small and beautiful moment with family and friends,” and her loved ones came prepared with the fun, supportive vibes.

At one point during the reception, Donatella Versace, Hilton, Madonna, Gomez, and Barrymore sang “Vogue” together with Spears — but instead of singing the title moment of the song, Madonna raised her glass and sang, “Britney!”

The newlyweds drove off in a Rolls Royce after the wedding, according to Vogue, while “guests surrounded their car with sparklers before heading back inside to continue the party late into the night.” It sounds like every bit the fairytale wedding at Spears’ Thousand Oaks home.

But the day didn’t start off quite so smoothly. As TMZ reported, Jason Alexander, Spears’ first husband of 55 hours, attempted to gatecrash the nuptials. He even recorded himself sneaking onto the property via Instagram. He was ultimately arrested, though, and doesn’t seem to have had an impact on the rest of the day’s festivities.
