Despite a slew of recent celebrity splits, here is definitive proof that love is not dead after all: George and Amal Clooney's wedding anniversary is on Sunday, September 27. That means it's been exactly one year since the Clooneys tied the knot with a four-day ceremony in Italy and became everybody's official #PowerCoupleGoals. With his range of acting accolades and her equally impressive legal career, they are easily one of the most ambitious pairs in Hollywood.
The greatest thing about these two is that they are incredibly supportive of the other's endeavors. Amal is always by her husband's side on the red carpet, while George frequently tells the press about the amazing things his wife is working on — whether that's juggling multiple cases at once or teaching a human rights course at Columbia Law School.
Despite their hectic schedules, the two made sure to commemorate the big occasion. According to Us Weekly, the couple celebrated their anniversary a little early with dinner on Friday night at a Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles. How romantic!
It's been quite a year for the newlyweds, so let's look back at the highlights of their first year together. Here are George and Amal Clooney's best moments.
1. The Golden Globes
Back in January, George and Amal attended their first red carpet together as a married couple. (He even wore his wedding tux, which made it all the more perfect!) When George Clooney won the Cecil B. Demille Lifetime Achievement Award, he made sure to thank the amazing woman by his side. With a smile, he said, "Amal, whatever alchemy it is that brought us together, I couldn't be more proud to be your husband." Swoon.
Another highlight? When Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made this hilariously accurate joke to open the show:
George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin this year. Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria and was selected for a three-person UN commission investigating rules of war violation in the Gaza Strip, so tonight her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award.
Touché. They're both worthy of all of the awards.
2. Their Staycation Honeymoon
Most people plan extravagant honeymoons, but not the Clooneys. Instead, they decided to spend a week in their England home — just relaxing and enjoying each other's company. The simplicity of it is awesome and proves they're not a maintenance couple.
Naturally, they both dove right back into work afterward. Because of course they did — that's what power couples do.
3. Amal's Birthday
The couple also had a low-key celebration in honor of Amal Clooney's 37th birthday. They didn't need to rent out an entire extravagant venue or anything like that. Instead, they had a group of close friends over, including Cindy Crawford's husband, Rande Gerber.
Speaking of Amal's celebration, Gerber told reporters that George is "always doing special things for her." Awww! As adorable as that is, it's not surprising at all.
4. Visiting George's Hometown
Back in August, the Clooneys took a trip back to George's hometown in Kentucky for a family reunion. It's nice that he can go back to his roots with his new wife by his side. Based on photos from that trip, it's clear they had a blast! As successful as they may be, they're never too caught up in work to remember where they came from.
5. Tomorrowland Press Tour
They both may be incredibly busy, but they still make an effort to spend time together. According to one interview, George says they never spend more than a week apart. Proving that point, Amal joined George at the Tokyo premiere of Tomorrowland back in May. The two absolutely glowed on the red carpet.
