Bustle's Editors On #MuteMonday + 'Star Wars'

by Christine DiStasio

What. A. Weekend. The highs were high, and the lows were, well, low. But here we are at the start of another week and things are already ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-changing. Mondays are hard (trust us, we're right there with you).

If you were one of the hundreds of thousands to join the historic Women's March in Washington, D.C., or a sister event across the country (or world!), then bravo to you. What an amazing way to stand up for what you believe in. But you might be wondering what happens next, right? So, here's how you can continue to fight for what you believe in and some super-special Star Wars news (because even the strongest activists enjoy a little entertainment).

President Trump + #MuteMonday

It's official, Donald Trump is the 45th president of the United States. (I'll pause for you to feel however you want to feel. Okay, let's go...) But, just because he's the POTUS, doesn't mean you have to follow him on Twitter.

Feminist newsletter Signal Boost sent out a call to action for people to unfollow both of Trump's Twitter accounts on Sunday. Instead of following POTUS, they asked that you follow an inspiring organization's account instead and share which you chose with the hashtag #MuteMonday.

WTF of the Weekend: Just when you thought things couldn't get any weirder, Kellyanne Conway gave the most B.S. explanation for Trump's administration saying that his inauguration drew the largest crowd in American history. According to Conway, that wasn't a "lie," those were just "alternative facts." Oh, OK, that makes perfect sense — NOT. And, true story, searches for "fact" spiked on Merriam-Webster.com after Conway's comment. LOL.

Women's March + Taylor Swift

Again, if you were one of the hundreds of thousands that joined the Women's March on Washington or one of its sister marches — you go, girl! (And if you didn't attend, but supported from afar, you get points too!)

But there's one woman that's not getting any credit for supporting the marches. Taylor Swift. On Saturday — while most of us were marching — Swift tweeted her support for the Women's March, leaving her fans less than impressed. As a self-proclaimed feminist, Swift's fans expected to see the star marching alongside some members of her famous "squad," and proceeded to call her out when they found out she didn't.

What's Next: The success of the marches across the globe were just the beginning. If you were left wondering what happens next, the Women's March's 10 actions for the first 100 days of Trump's presidency aims to keep the momentum alive. And you can already start working on Step One!

Global Gag Rule + A Photo That Will Haunt You

On Monday, President Trump reinstated the "global gag rule" — the anti-abortion executive order also know as the "Mexico City rule" — surrounded by white men. Of course.

Originally instated by Ronald Reagan, the GGR prevents foreign aid dollars from going to organizations that offer abortion access, counseling, or information to women. Sound scary? That's because it is. Here's how you can help to protest it.

Star Wars + Episode VIII

Calling all Star Wars fans: the official title of Episode VIII was released early Monday and hints at a big focus on Luke Skywalker. The next chapter in the Star Wars series — which will be called The Last Jedi — will be released on Dec. 15, 2017, so you won't have *too* long to wait for your next Star Wars fix.

Shopping Break: If you're already so over winter and are ready to get a jumpstart on spring-cleaning (good for you, you ambitious goddess), here are 10 house-cleaning products you definitely need — even if you don't know it yet.

What to Watch: It's Monday, and that means there's a new episode of The Bachelor at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. May your love/hate relationship with Corinne continue. ;) (Psst, you should *probably* take this Nick Viall quiz to kill time before tonight's episode.)
