If you've ever looked up at the night sky, shook your fist, and blamed all of your dating horror stories on the universe, well, you might’ve been onto something. According to astrologers, there can be a connection between your zodiac sign and the relationship problems you tend to experience most often.

Since some traits and habits are set in the stars, it’s helpful to know all how your sign might spell trouble for your dating life. "This knowledge can really help someone who is absolutely bewildered [by] why things don't work out for them in relationships," says author and astrologer Lisa Allen, MH.

If it feels like your love life always falls apart at the same moment, or if you seem to have similar arguments repeatedly with your partner, it could mean you’re repeating a pattern without realizing it. As soon as you’re aware of that habit, it’ll be easier to try something new.

Of course, your relationship issues might also stem from who you’re typically attracted to. If you keep dating the same type of partner — like the ones your friends warn you about — chances are you’ll experience the same problems once you start dating.

To figure out what’s what, Allen recommends looking at your astrological birth chart in full to get a more accurate picture of who you are as a person and how you tend to operate within relationships. While your sun sign and rising sign can tell you a lot, you should also see where Venus is in your chart, since this planet represents how you give and receive love.

Keep reading below for some of the most common dating issues for each zodiac sign, according to astrologers.

Aries (March 20-April 19)

As an impulsive fire sign, Aries loves to jump into relationships with both feet. It’s not uncommon for you to fall in love on a first date and assume you’ll be with your Tinder match forever. It feels romantic and exciting to live life this way, but according to Allen, this personality trait can get you into trouble.

Think about all the times you moved in with someone after a month or traveled abroad with a partner you only knew for a week. While it makes for a great story, moving this fast means you often end up with people who aren’t a good match. Because these relationships are built on excitement, you always seem to wake up a few weeks later and realize you have absolutely nothing in common.

Allen says it’s great to be passionate, and you definitely shouldn’t stop having fun, but if you want something long-term it may be worth it to go for a slow-burn relationship instead. If it feels a touch boring at the start, that could be a good thing.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)

If you have a lot of Taurus placements in your birth chart, there’s a good chance you’re more stubborn than you realize when it comes to relationships. As the sign represented by the bull, you likely struggle to compromise, which can cause problems from the jump.

Instead of looking for a partner who complements your life, you tend to look for partners who fit into what you’ve already got going on. When that’s the case, you might find yourself arguing with them or feeling frustrated over the littlest things.

According to astrologer Stina Garbis, Taurus often finds themselves not seeing eye-to-eye in relationships. It’s tough for them to find a partner who moves at the same pace, whether it’s regarding commitment — or just getting out of the house in a timely fashion.

To create more harmony, it wouldn’t hurt to hit up a couples counselor so you can learn how to work well as a duo.

Gemini (May 20-June 20)

As an air sign, you tend to be the life of the party, and you’re always ready for a good chat. "You entertain effortlessly and love to be the first to know ideas when they are new and fresh," says Allen. But this endearing quality can also get you into trouble, as it sets you up to get bored easily.

Cut to six months into a relationship where you’re wondering why you aren’t attracted to your partner anymore, even though they’re perfect on paper. If it seems like you can’t fall and stay in love, this may be why.

According to Garbis, Geminis often expect their significant others to entertain them. You want a partner who will text you all day and stimulate your mind with thoughtful conversation. When they aren’t available, your first thought is to break up with them instead of looking for ways to have more fun together.

As a final issue, this sign is also notoriously late for everything, she says. More than one person has been left sitting at a bar waiting for a Gemini.

Cancer (June 20-July 22)

Of all the zodiac signs, Cancers are the most capable of deep and romantic love. You’re a water sign who loves to feel safe and secure, and it means you like to nest and create deep bonds and fun traditions to share with a partner.

If you want it, you could totally create a solid, long-lasting relationship, but it’s also easy for you to become controlling and demanding, says Allen. You’ve also been known to place a lot of pressure on yourself to be a good partner, which often leads to burnout.

You might find that your most common relationship problems come from your lack of desire to have meaningful convos, says Garbis. It’s tough for you to express yourself without getting caught up in emotions as a sign ruled by the moon. It’ll be tough, but if your partner approaches you with any complaints about the issues above, try to hear them out without shutting down.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 22)

As a sign ruled by the sun, Leo is naturally warm and uplifting to be around, which is why Allen says people are always lining up to revel in your vibrant ways. It isn’t hard for you to find a date, but it can be hard to keep a relationship going.

One of the biggest problems you encounter? According to Garbis, it’s feeling like you’re never getting as much attention as you want or deserve. It can feel like your partner isn’t doing enough, and you aren’t one to sit around and accept low energy or effort.

To cope with this issue, you need the type of relationship that’s fun and active, as well as a partner who values all five of the love languages. That way you can get their time and attention, acts of service, and plenty of gifts.

Virgo (Aug. 22-Sept. 22)

As an earth sign, Virgos tend to have a very particular way of doing things, and according to Garbis, all of your biggest relationship problems trickle down from there.

While many Virgos love their partner, they don’t really like them or how they run their lives. “They’re good at pointing out flaws,” she says, and it often puts everyone on edge.

If you have your Venus in Virgo, it might also explain why you struggle to meet people in the first place. This placement often goes hand-in-hand with shyness, so you aren’t the type to put yourself out there.

Libra (Sept. 22-Oct. 23)

As a Libra, you’re ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty. It makes you incredibly romantic but left unchecked, your love life can become merely an idea.

"In this state, love is the proverbial altar where you worship and casually change the photo when you find an aesthetically better [partner],” says Allen. You’ll have an all-encompassing crush on someone, and then forget about them the very next week.

Libras also tend to forget themselves in relationships. Once you do match up with someone, you might forget about your own wants and needs. Remember to have your own friends, your own hobbies, and plenty of alone time to rebalance your scales.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

If Scorpios are known for anything, it’s intensity. When you aren’t crying, you’re either yelling, giving someone the silent treatment, or blocking their number. As Allen says, "Everything is zero percent or 100 percent [with] not much in between.”

As a water sign who values truth, loyalty, and trust, it can be tough to tell when something is worth your passion and when something isn’t. Even though you have a deep desire for stability, you tend to blow things up.

Scorpio is a deep, transformative, and slightly esoteric sign, and that means you tend to attract partners who are equally eccentric, says Garbis.

While you often find yourself in intense, movie-worthy relationships as a result, these connections are rarely built to last. Even though it isn’t as exciting, Scorpios should lean into the quiet, wholesome relationships that bring them peace.

Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec 22)

Your sign is all about freedom — freedom to learn, travel, and explore — so you don't do well with partners who refuse to give you that space, says Allen. Sagittarius is ruled by lucky, expansive Jupiter, making it very easy for you to feel trapped.

As a fire sign, you can also be incredibly blunt, says Garbis. You say exactly what you’re thinking without first passing it through a filter. While some partners might appreciate the boldness and the honesty, reconsider this approach if it gets you into trouble.

Some things are better left unsaid, especially that mean thought you have in the heat of the moment during an argument. For many Sagittarians, this is how many of their relationships end.

Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19)

One theme you likely notice in your dating life as a Capricorn is that you tend to attract partners who are a bit of a burden, says Allen. This earth sign is practical and hardworking, so you’ve got it all figured out, and just like a moth to a flame you find yourself with people who aren’t interested in an equal partnership.

Instead of creating a fair and balanced relationship, you always feel like everything falls in your lap. It leads to frustration as you look at your partner and wonder why they aren’t helping. And ultimately, it sucks all the fun and all the love out of your connection.

To set things right, try asserting your needs, says Allen. If your partner can’t keep up, do yourself a favor and get out early before you waste your precious time.

Aquarius (Jan 19-Feb. 18)

As a sign ruled by distant Uranus, Aquarius tends to have a faraway look in their eyes at all times. Your partners might find this intriguing when you first meet, but eventually, it can read as emotional detachment and lack of commitment, says Allen.

Aquarians are visionaries, so they have big ideas and big plans for the future. And yet, despite having your sights set on the horizon, you also have a deep need for security right now. Relationship problems can arise from this odd combo as you try to find a partner who loves everything about you but doesn’t cramp your style.

If your relationship falls apart, it’s likely because you were giving mixed messages. If one second you’re fully invested in scheduling a second date with your Bumble match, and the next you’re feeling the urge to ghost, take a beat and think about what you truly want. Remember, it’s also OK to be single.

Pisces (Feb. 18-March 20)

As a dreamy Pisces, you often struggle to stay focused and present in your relationships — and your partners definitely notice. They can tell when you’re spacing out, whether it’s on a first date or when you’re meeting their family, and it can eventually lead to hurt feelings.

While you make a great partner in many ways — Pisces are extremely nurturing, for one — your watery nature means you tend to disappear into a daydream, and that’s when your partner might feel like you’ve checked out. Arguments can arise when they accuse you of not listening or not remembering important dates.

To remedy the situation, Allen recommends communicating this tendency to your partner or finding someone who embraces it. As the saying goes, there’s a lid for every pot.
